Content

Conventional submerged arc welding has historically been done using solid wire. In order to meet the need for improved productivity while maintaining excellent mechanical properties and low hydrogen requirements, seamless flux cored wires for have become a popular alternative in submerged arc welding.

Mechanical requirements have also become more critical due to the influence of reductions in wall thickness and higher strength materials. Strict requirements regarding the impact properties and tensile strength are essential. Due to the use of higher strength base material, the necessity for the use of low hydrogen welding filler metals is of significant importance.

The unique manufacturing process and characteristics of these seamless flux cored wires will be presented. Mechanical properties and results of diffusible hydrogen testing will be included.
