Hydrogen cracks appear very often in weldments. Especially high strength material is prone for this kind of failures, but also lower strength material may be affected when hydrogen levels from different sources are very high. This webinar gives an insight into this crack formation in weld joints. Special emphasis is given into testing methods for multi run/multi layer weldments. Examples are given where the susceptibility on HAC (hydrogen assisted cracking) is measured depending on wall thickness and strength level for pipeline girth welds. Second example shows the relationship of HAC on strength level and hydrogen content.

Agenda

  1. Introduction on hydrogen cracks
  2. Test method for investigation on HAC for multi layer weldments
  3. Example 1: HAC susceptibility on wallthickness and strength level
  4. Example 2: HAC susceptibility on diffusible hydrogen content and weld metal strength
  5. Summary
